At Royal Rumble 2010, The Undertaker defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Rey Mysterio in a classic David vs. Goliath showdown. Mysterio earned this title opportunity after defeating Batista in a No. 1 Contender’s match, setting up a highly anticipated battle against The Deadman.
The match began with Mysterio using his signature speed, staying on the move to avoid Undertaker’s overwhelming power. He hit quick leg kicks and evasive maneuvers, but The Phenom soon caught him and delivered a devastating big boot, immediately shifting momentum in his favor.
Undertaker methodically punished Mysterio, throwing him into the turnbuckles with immense force and delivering a stiff snake eyes–big boot combo. However, every time The Deadman attempted to slow the pace, Mysterio found ways to escape, using his agility to create separation.
A turning point came when Mysterio dodged a leg drop on the apron, causing Undertaker to crash hard. Seizing the moment, Rey hit a springboard seated senton to the outside, followed by a diving moonsault, momentarily dazing the champion.
Back inside the ring, Mysterio managed to send Undertaker into position for the 619, but as he swung around the ropes, The Deadman caught him by the throat for a chokeslam. Miraculously, Mysterio countered mid-air into a hurricanrana, once again setting up Undertaker for another 619. This time, Rey connected and immediately followed up with a springboard splash, but The Phenom kicked out at two.
As Mysterio attempted another high-risk move, Undertaker countered with a brutal Last Ride powerbomb, slamming him into the mat with force. However, due to previous damage inflicted by Mysterio, Undertaker’s nose began bleeding—a rare sight that only intensified the moment.
Despite Mysterio’s relentless efforts, there was no stopping The Deadman. As he went for one last attack, Undertaker caught him, hoisted him up, and delivered a second, thunderous Last Ride for the three-count, retaining the World Heavyweight Championship.
This match showcased Mysterio’s heart and determination but ultimately proved why The Undertaker was a dominant force on SmackDown. It was a thrilling clash of styles, reinforcing The Phenom’s reign while solidifying Mysterio as the ultimate underdog.
